Philomé Obin was a Haitian artist born in Cap-Haitien in 1892.
Much of his early work is lost. At an art center, Obin submitted a painting dealing with the President of the United States at that time and thus set him up for exposure on a much larger scale.
Obin uses subtle coloring for his paintings which was passed on to many other artists he taught over the years. He was also asked to paint murals on the Sainte Trinité, the Episcopal Cathedral in Port-au-Prince.
Obin died in Cap-Haitien in 1986.
