Mario Carreño was a Cuban artist born in Havana in 1913.

He studied at the Academia San Alejandro de Cuba and later went on to study in Spain and France.  Among his teachers was Dominican artist Jaime Colson.

Through the years, his paintings moved from Figurativism to Cubism. Carreño founded numerous art schools in his life and taught at one of them for over two decades. His paintings offer lively, attractive colors and landscapes.

Carreño died in Santiago de Chile in 1999.
