Fernando Botero is a Colombian artist born in Medellin in 1932.
From an early age, Botero showed a vast interest in art, writing for El Colombiano, earning himself awards, and holding solo exhibitions. He took his interests to Europe where he continued to study art at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid and the Academy of San Marcos in Florence.
Botero has formed his unique style of inflated shapes and shifts in scale. He focuses some of his work on his homeland of Colombia, painting everything from small towns to heads of state.
He is considered the most recognized living artist from Latin America.
